Drona 2010
Nyla reviews Malayalam film Drona 2010
Cast: Mammootty, Navya Nair, Thilakan, Manoj K Jayan and others
To begin with, director Shaji Khailas seems to have thought twice before naming this Mammooty-starrer film
Drona 2010, especially because films made in the past with the same name have not done well at the box office, be it the Abishek Bachachan or Nithin (Hindi and Telugu respectively) and correctly name this film Drona 2010.
But did this save the movie?
Shaji khailas has, for some time now, been disappointing his fans and
Drona 2010 does not change that.
Mammootty plays a double role in the film, one as the flamboyant atheist Kunjunni who carelessly disregards the haunted house theory of his ancestral home Nellore Mana, buys it and soon gets killed. In the second role, he appears as Pattazhi Madhavan (Kunjunni’s older brother), a Vedic scholar who takes up residence in the haunted house to find out why and how his family was murdered in the mansion.
He manages to drive out the ghosts but soon realizes that someone is out to revenge his family for some reasons that dates backs several generations. Veteran actor Thilakan appears as the head of the avenging family while Manoj K Jayan plays the role of the son carrying out his father’s orders.
The female leads, Kanika and Navya Nair have done justice to their roles well. The saving grace of the film is the music by Deepak Dev.
The first half of the movie sets the build up for the predictable second half, but Shaji’s slick direction, fast cut shots have managed to salvage the movie from being a complete wash-out!
Verdict: Okay to watch once!
