Dubai's taxi sector posts record growth rate

Dubai's taxi sector achieved a growth rate of 10 per cent during the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year.

The number of taxi journeys during the first six months of this year totalled 55 million, up from 50 million in the first half of 2022.

As a result, overall ridership reached 96 million compared to 88.7 million in H1 2022.

The share of Hala Taxi service vehicles grew as much as 35 per cent, with the number of drivers in this sector increasing from 19,000 to 26,000.

"The taxi sector is marking its highest growth in recent years, particularly e-hailing of taxis, smart car rentals and Hala Taxi service. The figures reflect the thriving economy of Dubai," said Adel Shakri, Director of Planning & Business Development at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

He added that nearly 50 per cent of Hala Taxi trips in the first half of 2022 reached customers within 3.5 minutes, and by the first half of 2023, the response time improved, with around 66 per cent arriving within 3.5 minutes to pick up passengers.
