New ministers appointed as part of UAE cabinet reshuffle

Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi has been appointed as the UAE's Minister of State for Youth Affairs.

It's one of several new ministerial appointments as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed said that Al Neyadi will continue to handle scientific and space duties in addition to his new responsibilities.

The appointment came after Sheikh Mohammed launched the search for a Youth Minister in September.

Al Neyadi spent six months on the International Space Station last year.

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister for Financial and Economic Affairs.

Sheikh Mohammed hailed Sheikh Maktoum's efforts in leading the Ministry of Finance, in addition to key economic and commercial portfolios at federal and local levels.

Mohammed bin Mubarak Fadel Al Mazrouei has been appointed as Minister of State for Defence Affairs and a member of the cabinet.

He was previously an undersecretary in the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and an adviser in the Presidential Court.

Mariam AlMheiri, UAE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, will now serve as the Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Office.

The UAE's new Minister of Environment is Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, who has also been appointed as a member of the cabinet.
