Etihad CEO says 'First Class' remains main focus, not 'premium economy'

Etihad Airways CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, has confirmed that "Premium Economy" is not on the cards for the national carrier, despite competition in the market, as it remains focused on delivering "First Class" experience for its passengers.

Speaking exclusively to Dubai Eye 103.8's Business Breakfast show, Neves explained that "Premium Economy" is a good concept but not one for Etihad due to its varied fleet type. 

Neves added that the load factor, which measures how well an airline is filling available seats, is another reason why Etihad isn't looking at "Premium Economy".

"We don't want to make the same mistakes by copying other airlines," he added. 

In an earlier interview with Reuters, Neves was upbeat about the upcoming winter season, adding that the airline was generating cash to invest in the fleet.

Earlier on Monday, Etihad made public a new cabin design across first, business and economy classes for its existing Airbus A321 LR aircraft as well as for its A330s, which Neves said could be delivered in the middle of next year.

Etihad expects to post flat revenue this year compared to 2025 as a result of the airspace closures in March and April, while profitability is expected to be almost zero.
