Instagram is celebrating its fifth birthday as it hits the milestone of 400 million users. The photo-sharing social media site, which started as the dream of two friends, is used by people all over the world to document their lives in pictures. Over the first five years of its life it has seen more than 40 billion photos shared, with 80 million uploads a day, and 3.5 billion likes every day. It attracts some of the most rich and famous, providing a platform for stars like Rihanna and Justin Bieber to share intimate moments with fans. When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West shared their first kiss after their wedding, it became the most liked photo on Instagram of 2014. But in June this year, Kim's younger sister Kendall Jenner took the title by posting a photo that has gained more than three million likes. David Beckham joined the site this year to celebrate his 40th birthday, while Mario Testino used it to reveal his first official pictures of Princess Charlotte. Beckham is one of the UK's top five accounts along with One Direction's Harry Styles and Niall Horan, Real Madrid and Wales footballer Gareth Bale, and an account belonging to @fakeliampayne. Beckham was the fastest person to reach one million followers, hitting the number in just one day. (Bloomberg)
