A UAE delegation has wrapped up a five-day visit to China, where it looked at partnerships in clean energy, battery storage and electric transport.
The delegation was led by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. It included representatives from Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and AD Ports Group.
In Shanghai, Al Olama chaired a roundtable with leading Chinese companies. It covered cooperation and investment in clean energy, hydrogen, nuclear energy, energy storage and smart mobility, as well as attracting Chinese investment to the UAE.
The delegation also toured the Port of Shanghai’s Yangshan Phase IV container terminal, which runs on smart operating systems and autonomous equipment.
Officials were shown battery storage systems, electric vehicle platforms, mobile charging robots and electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, also known as air taxis. They also saw technology for powering ships and ports with electricity.
"We are committed to developing international partnerships that support the deployment of energy storage technologies and electric mobility solutions in the UAE," Al Olama said.
He said the visit was a chance to "explore the latest solutions and assess their potential application in ways that address our needs, improve energy efficiency and support the sustainability of the transport sector".
