Sean “Diddy” Combs has returned his key to New York City at the request of the mayor, just nine months after receiving the honour.
The symbolic key is given to “individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to the highest level of achievement” and was coinciding with the release of the artist's album "The Love Album: Off The Grid” last year.
New York mayor Eric Adams requested the return of the key following the latest video footage showing Combs physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016.
Diddy made a public apology to his followers via Instagram after the footage emerged.
Mayor Adams said he was “deeply disturbed” by the attack, saying, “I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.”
