Elton John was forced to cut short a performance in Auckland on Sunday night, due to a case of walking pneumonia.
Video footage posted online showed the 72-year-old singer breaking down in tears after he lost his voice while performing at Auckland's Mount Smart Stadium.
"I've just completely lost my voice. I can't sing," Elton told the crowd. "I've got to go. I'm sorry."
The crowd responded with an extended ovation as he was assisted off stage.
Organisers, however, are confident that the singer will continue with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
"Elton John was disappointed and deeply upset at having to end his Auckland concert early last night,” the promoters’ statement said. “At this stage, all remaining shows will go ahead as planned.”
