Tom Jones cancels gigs due to family illness

Sir Tom Jones axed a gig in the Philippines last night (02.04.16) due to a "serious illness" in his family. The 'Green, Green Grass of Home' singer was "most sad" to pull out of a performance in Manila, while he has also axed a planned concert in Abu Dhabi on April 15. A statement about last night's show read: "Due to serious illness in his immediate family, Tom Jones has regretfully had to cancel his performance in Manila this evening. "He extends his deepest apologies to both the organisers and the fans, who he is most sad to disappoint. There are no further details at this time." A similar statement was later issued about the Abu Dhabi show. Following rumours the 75-year-old star's wife Linda - the mother of his son and manager, 59-year-old Mark - was ill, Tom's management have denied that is the case, leaving the cause of the cancellations a mystery. A family friend told the Daily Express: "Tom is going through a bad time but wants to keep it as private as he can." The 'It's Not Unusual' singer had already landed in the Philippines when the cancellation was announced.
