New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday said changes to the gun laws will be announced within the next few days.
"Within 10 days of this horrific act of terrorism we will announce reforms which will, I believe, make our community safer," Ardern said at a media conference following a cabinet meeting on the gun reform laws.
She did not detail the new gun laws but has said she supports a ban on automatic weapons following the Christchurch shootings that left 50 people dead.
Australian Brenton Tarrant, who has been charged with murder on Saturday, had reportedly bought four weapons and ammunition online.
