Pensioners and students gather for Hong Kong protest

Students and retirees have joined forces to keep up the momentum of the anti-government protests in Hong Kong, a day after police withdrew from a university campus.

"I have seen so much police brutality and unlawful arrests. This is not the Hong Kong I know. I came today because I want the government to know that we are not happy with what they have done to our generation," said a protester.

Many believe their democratic rights are being curtailed by the Chinese government.

After last week's local elections delivered an overwhelming victory to pro-democracy candidates and US President Donald Trump's support for the movement, the city has seen relative calm.
