Airports in the Philippines’ Luzon island will not operate international flights from March 20.

The Philippine government explained that the move is part of efforts to enforce "enhanced community quarantine" to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

According to the country's Department of Transportation, no one will be allowed to depart and arrive at Luzon’s gateways once the 72-hour window ends. This will also impact overseas Filipino workers and their families.

The enhanced quarantine over Luzon took effect midnight Tuesday and is set to end on April 13.
