At least eight Afghan election commission employees have been killed inside a district centre in the southern province of Kandahar.
According to reports, the employees of the Independent Election Commission were registering voters at the government office in Maruf district when the Taliban gunmen launched the attack.
Later, Afghan officials confirmed that few members of the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) were wounded, but disputed the Taliban's claims that they had killed 57 members.
Separately on Saturday, Taliban fighters killed eight Afghan soldiers and injured eight others at a military checkpoint in Balabulak district.
