Abu Dhabi eases restrictions on pets in hotels, restaurants

Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced new rules allowing hotels and restaurants holding tourism licenses to welcome guests with their pets, like cats and dogs.

Venues that choose to allow pets must set up designated areas, mainly open-air spaces like outdoor seating areas or balconies.

Suitable indoor or enclosed areas may also be provided, as long as health and safety standards are maintained, animal welfare is protected, and the comfort of all guests is taken into account.

Fahad Ali Alshehhi, Acting Executive Director of the Municipal Services Operations Support Sector at DMT, said the move promotes inclusivity and strengthens Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a top global destination.

Previously, regulations across the emirate restricted pets from restaurants, with exceptions made only for certified service animals.
