Dubai has launched three clinics that will collect convalescent plasma donations from patients who have recovered from COVID-19.
The Dubai Health Authority says convalescent plasma therapy can speed up the recovery of patients by 85 to 90 per cent.
Those who’ve had the disease develop antibodies that will stay in their blood to fight the same virus. The antibodies are then transfused into a COVID-19 patient to boost their immune system and help them get better faster.
A person can donate three dosages, which can save two to three lives.
Health authorities announced last month that it would be using this type of therapy, after international medical results found that they were effective.
