Dubai Police returns $20,000 to tourist who lost cash at airport

A tourist from Saudi Arabia flying through DXB's Terminal 1 was pleasantly surprised when Dubai Police returned her bag with $20,000 (AED 73,450) in cash, 150gm of gold and other valuables, she had lost before boarding her flight.

The tourist, who had misplaced her bag at the airport, was unsure of what to do for fear of missing her flight, when the officials approached her.

Colonel Abdullah Faisal Al Dosari, Director of the Terminal 1 Security Department, said they were alerted about the bag after an employee found it at an "open area" of the terminal.

With no formal complaint registered, officials faced the added challenge of finding the owner.

Using the "documents" found in the bag, officials were able to identify her, but they had to assemble a team on the ground to trace her movements and track her down.

Col. Al Dosari said the bag was returned to the traveller after completing the necessary legal procedures and verifying that she held all required permits and documentation.

The bag also contained "other currencies, mobile phones of various brands", the official added.

The traveller expressed her joy and deep gratitude for Dubai Police's efforts and their commitment to returning lost belongings and bringing happiness to travellers .
