Dubai Police have renewed calls for motorists to avoid driving when tired or drowsy following an accident in which a truck crashed into a metal safety barrier after its driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
The accident occurred on Emirates Road (E611) after the Dubai Flyover towards Abu Dhabi.
According to Dubai Police, the driver became drowsy, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road before crashing into the barrier.
The truck eventually came to a stop off the roadway. The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, warned that fatigue reduces concentration, slows reaction times and increases the risk of losing control of a vehicle.
He urged motorists to get enough rest before setting out on journeys and to stop in a safe place as soon as they feel tired or drowsy.
Dubai Police also reminded drivers to stay in their lanes, remain alert and follow road safety rules to help prevent accidents and protect lives.
