Dubai Customs carried out 398 seizures of narcotic substances in the first quarter of 2021.
Of these, six seizures were carried out by the Maritime Customs, 35 by Land Customs, 131 by Passenger Operations and 226 by Air Cargo Centres.
Meanwhile, the total drug seizures stood at 1,118 in 2020.
Commenting on the figures, top officials highlighted how advanced technologies, especially the Siyaj initiative, helped seize 76.31 kg of drugs, with a street value of AED47.5 million, that was skillfully hidden in a container.
The 'Safe Homeland Campaign' also helped thwart the smuggling of three million Captagon pills, the official added.
