The world's largest and most efficient waste-to-energy plant has opened in Dubai's Warsan.

The first phase of the project worth AED 4 billion was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

The facility can process 2 million tonnes of waste per year and generate 220 megawatt-hours of renewable energy, which is enough to power 135,000 residential units.

"The remarkable project reinforces Dubai’s status as a global leader in sustainable infrastructure," said Sheikh Hamdan, who also congratulated the "exceptional teams" involved in this project.
