Authorities in Dubai have made it a lot easier for residents to file complaints about unwanted flyers and other promotional materials distributed in residential facilities.
According to the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), complaints can be submitted through the 'Dubai Consumer' app and the Consumerrights.ae website.
"The process is simple – all you need to do is to go to the app or website, and attach a picture of the annoying promotional material along with your contact information. We will take up the issue with the merchant concerned," explained Ahmad Al Zaabi, Director of Consumer Protection at DET.
However, if the promotional material belongs to a company licensed in another emirate, the complaint must be filed to the competent authorities in that particular emirate.
The DET said that dumping promotional stickers and flyers outside buildings and homes is not only annoying but also affects the general appearance of the city.
It has urged traders to avoid unauthorised distribution of marketing materials as it will be considered an explicit violation.
