Industrial plant in Abu Dhabi shut for violating environmental laws

WAM

An industrial facility in Abu Dhabi has been ordered to suspend operations for violating environmental laws and regulations.

Inspection reports and public complaints revealed that the plant, which specialised in processing used oils, emitted foul gas odours, in non-compliance with environmental licence requirements.

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi said that the facility, located in Al Mafraq Industrial Zone, carried out operational processes without taking precautionary measures to prevent emissions, and did not commit to installing air pollution control devices, which are part of the Agency’s requirements.

The authority added that it halted operations because of repeated violations that negatively impacted nearby residential areas.

The EAD has called on all industrial establishments operating in the emirate of Abu Dhabi to adhere to the legal and technical requirements included in the environmental licence issued to them.
