Sharjah Police announced it seized more than 1,200 kg of narcotics worth more than AED 279 million and arrested 680 suspects in 2024.
The authority also said it blocked 680 websites promoting narcotics, and launched two operations aimed at curbing drug distribution this year, with around 350 million narcotic pills seized.
The Police, at the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking forum, emphasized that the UAE "does not leave the fight against the drug epidemic to chance” but addresses it through firm determination to achieve “comprehensive prevention" and protection of the nation’s citizens.
During his speech at the forum, Colonel Majid Al-Asam highlighted the importance of joint action to combat this scourge, emphasizing that combating drugs is a national responsibility that cannot be taken lightly.
He explained that coordination with relevant authorities has yielded tangible results in 2024, with the effectiveness of Sharjah Police General Command's efforts in combating drugs reaching 91.2 per cent, according to reports from the Department of Statistics and Community Development.
Colonel Al-Asam called on young people to "adhere to their values and capabilities and to avoid such destructive behaviors," emphasizing that combating drugs begins with awareness.
