Investigations are underway in Sharjah after 16 people needed to be rescued following the capsize of a small cruise boat on an Eastern Region’s beach on Friday.
According to Colonel Dr Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, the incident was reported at 3:40 p.m on Friday.
He pointed out that specialized teams, including rescue teams, national ambulance, police patrols, in coordination and cooperation with the command of the Coast Guard Group "First Squad" headed to the scene.
Four people including a child were injured as a result of the accident and were immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment but one of them, an Asian, 38, died later.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed the presence of overtakes and violations led to the capsizing of the boat and those responsible have been referred to the competent authorities.
The Police Department has called on cruise boat companies to comply with safety and safety procedures, drive carefully, and not exceed the allowed number of passengers, with life jackets being mandatory to keep guests safe.
