Thirty-two members of an international gang have been arrested and drugs, worth AED 14 million, seized in a major operation by the Sharjah Police.
According to the police, the gang was attempting to smuggle narcotics and over a million psychoactive pills from a "neighbouring country".
The force launched an intense operation - titled "unveiling" - following a tip-off about an international criminal network that was planning to import narcotics for distribution within the country.
After verifying the infomation, the Sharjah Police initiated surveillance of the gang members.
One member was arrested after they found 50 kilograms of hashish and 49 liters of liquid crystal in his possession.
Further investigation revealed that the gang was being instructed by an individual residing outside the country, with members located across several countries.
The drugs were stored in a warehouse in a neighbouring Emirate and concealed inside the shipment of a cargo company and the chassis of a vehicle.
The remaining members of the criminal gang were arrested and 1.1 million psychoactive pills seized.
The Sharjah Police urged the public to report any suspicious activities by dialling 8004654 or emailing dea@shjpolice.gov.ae.
