Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has discussed regional developments during a phone call with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, on Tuesday.
Sheikh Abdullah expressed the UAE's support for the "important and pivotal role" played by the UN nuclear watchdog in promoting the use of peaceful nuclear energy technologies in achieving sustainable development, while "fully adhering to international standards of safety and non-proliferation".
In early June, the UAE received the highest level of assurance granted by the IAEA for the third consecutive year, declaring that all nuclear material in the country is being used for peaceful purposes.
Sheikh Abdullah also discussed the broader regional situation with Grossi after the recent US strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran.
On Sunday, Grossi had raised doubts about how effective the US strikes were and said Iran could resume enriching uranium "within months".
US President Donald Trump said he would consider bombing Iran again if Tehran is enriching uranium to worrisome levels.
