A delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) was briefed on the latest initiatives of the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) during an official visit to its headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
The OHCHR delegation received an overview of the NHRI’s current efforts to promote and protect human rights in the UAE, in alignment with international standards and national legislation. The briefing also highlighted the institution’s initiatives to enhance international cooperation and dialogue in the human rights domain.
Led by Mazen Shaqoura, Regional Representative of the OHCHR for the Middle East and North Africa, the delegation included Leen Eid, treaty bodies expert, and Jad Haj Shahada, Human Rights Assistant Officer. Upon arrival, they were received by Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, and Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General of the NHRI, alongside a number of senior staff members.
The NHRI reiterated its commitment to deepening cooperation and knowledge exchange with international entities to adopt and implement global best practices in the field of human rights.
The delegation commended the NHRI’s efforts and praised its proactive approach to strengthening operational mechanisms and enhancing partnerships with international organisations to support the advancement of human rights in the UAE.
