The UAE's President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the opening session of the COP29 World Leaders Climate Action Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday.
In his address, he reaffirmed the UAE's strong commitment to accelerating climate action and building a resilient, sustainable economy for the future.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the UAE's long-standing dedication to environmental sustainability, noting that this commitment was a key driver in hosting COP28 last year.
He stressed the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change and said that climate action should be seen as an opportunity for growth, not a burden.
His Highness also pointed to the success of the UAE Consensus at COP28, which laid out a fair and balanced transition to clean energy and restored trust in the multilateral approach to addressing climate challenges.
In his remarks, Sheikh Mohamed called on all nations to prioritize unity over division, stressing that the collective mission must be to work together for the greater good of humanity.
Earlier in the day, the UAE President was welcomed at the summit by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
During his visit, Sheikh Mohamed engaged in discussions with several global leaders on enhancing international cooperation and accelerating efforts to address the climate crisis.
