The United Arab Emirates has sent urgent medical supplies to Senegal, following a fire that broke out in the neo-natal department of a hospital in the city of Tivaouane, north of the capital Dakar, which killed 11 newborns.
The plane carried medical supplies, in addition to beds and equipment for operating rooms and midwifery groups.
Sultan Ali Al Harbi, UAE Ambassador to Senegal, said the medical aid dispatched is reflective of long-standing relations between the UAE and Senegal, which date back to the mid-seventies.
The ambassador affirmed the keenness of the UAE leadership to assist all brotherly and friendly countries and enhance their capabilities in facing humanitarian crises and alleviate their impacts.
An electrical short-circuit has been cited as a possible cause of the blaze at the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh hospital, on May 25.
