The UAE will contribute $100 million to climate disaster fund arrangements, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on Thursday.
It's an important milestone in delivering for vulnerable communities and building resilience for people suffering the devastating impacts of climate change.
The fund which will assist developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change, known in the negotiations as ‘loss and damage’.
"We congratulate all parties on the historic adoption of this fund for climate impact response and announce the UAE commitment of $100 million as our contribution," he said on the X social media platform after COP28 formally approved climate disaster fund arrangements.
Other countries making notable commitments included Germany, which committed $100 million, the UK, which committed £40 million for the fund and £20 million for other arrangements, Japan, which contributed $10 million and the US, which committed $17.5 million.
