The UAE has welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which strongly condemns Iran’s unprovoked missile and drone attacks on GCC states and Jordan, and calls on Tehran to halt these attacks immediately.
The Council determined that Iran’s actions breach international law, pose a serious threat to regional peace and security, and hold Tehran liable for all damage and injuries caused.
The UAE praised Bahrain for leading the resolution on behalf of the GCC states and Jordan.
The adoption of this resolution follows several letters submitted on behalf of the GCC states and the UAE to the President of the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General.
The letters detailed the scale and impact of Iran’s attacks on the UAE and the wider region, calling for urgent and decisive action by the international community.
Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, the UAE’s permanent representative to the UN, said the resolution, co-sponsored by 135 countries, sends a clear message that the international community will not tolerate attacks on sovereignty or civilians.
He added that the UAE remains committed to defending its territory and working with the UN and allies to uphold international law, safeguard stability, and prevent further escalation in the region.
