Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, has led the UAE delegation visiting Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kyiv.
During the meeting, Almheiri discussed Ukraine's humanitarian crisis and plans for the country's reconstruction.
With a special focus on the welfare of children, Almheiri announced the donation of 2,500 computers to help students continue their school work remotely.
She also handed over a collection of letters written by Ukrainian children living in the UAE to their friends in Ukraine to First Lady Olena Zelenska as a gesture of hope.
They also reviewed new projects to rebuild damaged hospitals and schools and developments of the Foundation’s “Family-Type Orphanages” project, which the UAE supported by pledging $4 million towards constructing 10 buildings that can accommodate around 100 children.
She also expressed the wishes from the UAE leadership, and their keenness to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the crisis.
On his part, Zelenskiy acknowledged and thanked the UAE leadership for stepping up efforts to help them.
The UAE is continuing to provide relief to those affected by the crisis. In October 2022, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan pledged $100 million to support Ukrainian civilians.
So far, the UAE has sent three aircraft carrying emergency supplies, including 2,520 power generators, an additional 11 aircraft carrying supplies, 540 tonnes of medical and food supplies, and 94 tonnes of non-food items. It has also provided six ambulances to support Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Moldova and Bulgaria.
