Simona Halep has missed out on a chance to regain the world number one ranking after losing to Kiki Bertens in the finals of the Madrid Open.
The straight sets win takes Berten to fourth in the ranking, making her the highest-ranked female tennis player in history from the Netherlands.
The 27-year-old also becomes the first woman to win in Madrid without dropping a set.
Meanwhile, in the men's tournament, Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
He'll now play top seed Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.
