England have closed day one of the first Test against New Zealand on a positive note.

The visitors ended play on 241 for 4 in Mount Maunganui.

Rory Burns (52), Joe Denly (74) and Ben Stokes (67 not out) struck half-centuries, while Colin de Grandhomme took two wickets for the Black Caps.

Captain Joe Root's poor form with the bat continued as he made just 2 runs from 22 balls, while opener Dom Sibley managed only 22 on his debut.
