Lionel Messi helped Inter Miami reach their second final since joining the club last month. The Argentine superstar converted his penalty as his side won their second shoot-out in four days to reach the US Open Cup final.

Messi’s side came back from 2-0 against FC Cincinnati to win a thrilling game that ended 3-3 after extra time.

The 36-year-old failed to score in a match for the first time for his new side, however he did provide two assists during the game before Miami went on to win the match 5-4 on penalties.

Miami will now make the club’s first appearance in the prestigious US Open Cup final, a tournament which dates back to 1913, against Houston Dynamo on September 27.

Inter Miami are unbeaten in eight games after signing Messi and his former Barcelona team-mates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

They picked up the club’s first-ever honour last Saturday, beating Nashville to win the Leagues Cup.
