Miami Open: Djokovic, Osaka advance to third round

Novak Djokovic has progressed to the Miami Open third round after defeating Australian Bernard Tomic in 7-6 (7/2), 6-2.

He will next play Federico Delbonis in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Indian Wells Masters winner Dominic Thiem, however, suffered a shock defeat under the hands of Polish 22-year-old Hubert Hurkacz. 

Meanwhile, World No 1 Naomi Osaka beat the 141st-ranked Belgian qualifier Yanina Wickmayer 6-0 6-7 (3-7) 6-1.

This comes as Serena Williams crushed Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, and Venus advanced with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 win over Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro.
