Elite athletes Reuben Kiprop Kipyego, Titus Ekiru, Abel Kirui, Eunice Chumba, Sharon Cherop and Alemu Megertu are all set to compete at the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon this Friday.

It brings the total number of elite runners to 35, with Barnabas Kiptum, Philemon Rono Cherop, Abdi Asefa Kebede, Shumi Dechasa Leche and Thomas Kiplagat also confirmed for the big day.

Making the announcement, organiser Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and race title sponsor Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) said they are confident that the marathon will see "more world records broken".

“I am happy and proud to be in Abu Dhabi and I cannot wait to compete in the race on Friday. My overall goal is to beat my personal best and I am aiming for record time of 2:02:00. The course this year is fast and flat, so I am confident I can achieve this goal," said Ekiru.

Meanwhile, Kipyego is all set to defend his ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon crown, following his win in 2019.

Open to ages between 6 to 70 and runners of all fitness levels, the marathon will witness over 12,000 participants.

The event will be broadcast live on Channel 1 and 2 on Abu Dhabi Sports, with the village opening its doors to visitors on November 22 with a host of sporting and family entertainment options lined up.
