The USA overcame the Netherlands 2-0 in Lyon to win a record fourth Women's World Cup.

After a tight first-half Megan Rapinoe broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after a VAR review confirmed that Stefanie van der Gragt had caught Alex Morgan with a high boot.

Rose Lavelle then doubled the American's advantage seven minutes later, slotting home after a fine run.

The result means the US become only the second team to successfully defend their title, while Rapinoe took home the Golden Boot as top scorer and the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.
