The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) residential complex in Warsan is the first diversified family housing project in the world to hold the Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating.
DEWA's Warsan residential complex has been awarded the Platinum rating by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in the United States, becoming the first mixed-use family housing project in the world to receive this international certification, achieving 80 points in the LEED v4.1 system.
The achievement means the number of DEWA’s LEED-certified green buildings has risen to 10, reinforcing its efforts to reduce carbon emissions in Dubai and achieve carbon neutrality.
The Authority’s Warsan residential complex, which consists of a family housing building and a bachelor housing building, achieved 61 per cent water savings and 28 per cent energy savings.
The residential complex reduces leakage and produces 10 per cent of its energy requirements from renewable sources. The Warsan residential complex’s furniture has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a global non-profit organization that sets standards for what constitutes a responsibly managed forest, both environmentally and socially. The complex’s furniture includes low-VOC materials, which enhances the indoor environmental quality of the building.
