Reem Al Hashimy, Sweden's Dousa reiterate call for political solutions in global conflicts

Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Swedish Minister Benjamin Dousa have stressed the importance of political solutions for solving conflicts around the world.

It followed discussions pertaining to developments in Iran, Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and Syria. 

Al Hashimy reaffirmed the UAE’s resilience against Iranian attacks during talks with Dousa, who holds the ministerial post for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade,

She expressed appreciation for Sweden's support, highlighting the close partnership and longstanding friendship shared between the two countries.

Both sides underscored the importance of regional stability, safe navigation of international waterways, and respect for international law.

The meeting comes on the sideline of Al Hashimy's official visit to Sweden as part of the delegation accompanying Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

The two sides also touched upon the developments in Ukraine, with Al Hashimy highlighting how the UAE had successfully mediated several prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, with the total number of inmates released standing at 7,471.

Boosting bilateral ties

The ministers also explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.

On the economic front, the ministers discussed avenues to enhance trade and investment ties between the UAE and Sweden, including prospects for advancing negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and the European Union.

Al Hashimy underscored that enhanced economic cooperation would foster greater collaboration, generate mutual prosperity, strengthen supply chains, drive innovation, and create sustainable jobs, delivering lasting benefits to communities, economies, and future generations.
