UAE gives motorists chance to reduce black points on 'Accident-Free Day'

UAE motorists have the chance to get four black points removed from their traffic records if they avoid committing any violations on August 31 under the Ministry of Interior's 'Accident-Free Day' initiative.

Represented by the Federal Traffic Council, in coordination with all police forces across the UAE, the initiative aims to promote a culture of traffic safety and reinforce compliance with traffic laws and regulations. 

The initiative coincides with the first day of the academic year, in an effort to encourage patience, responsibility, and cooperation on the road for a safe traffic environment for students, parents, and all road users.

To qualify for the traffic points deduction, motorists can register for the campaign starting from Monday, August 17 at 10:00 am and sign an online pledge via the link published on the Ministry of Interior's social media account. 

Fundamental traffic requirements to comply with include ensuring vehicle safety and readiness before setting off, adhering to speed limits, avoiding distractions and refraining from using mobile phones while driving, and giving priority to pedestrians when crossing the road. 

Drivers who comply with the initiative requirements and traffic regulations will be eligible to have the four black points deducted. 

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and Head of the initiative, highlighted the importance of drivers and parents adhering to traffic laws and regulations, particularly with the increased traffic on roads and around schools at the beginning of the academic year.

He stressed that "the success of 'Accident-Free Day' is not confined to a single day, but rather lies in transforming the positive behaviours promoted by the campaign into a daily culture and practice that helps protect lives and makes the roads safer for all".
