UAE, seven others back UK action on illegal Israeli settlements

The UAE and seven other countries have welcomed the UK’s decision to ban imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and restrict services linked to those settlements.

The foreign ministers of the UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia say they hope the move will encourage other countries to take similar action under international law.

They also welcomed a joint statement on the two-state solution by Canada and 11 European countries supporting possible restrictions on trade with Israeli settlements that are considered illegal under international law.

The ministers called on the international community to take further concrete measures against activities that support or sustain illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

They said these steps are consistent with international law and relevant UN resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334, as well as the 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.

The ministers also stressed that Gaza is an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and called for the full and immediate implementation of the US plan to end the Gaza conflict, with a focus on security, humanitarian assistance, reconstruction and lasting peace.

They reaffirmed that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to a just and lasting peace, with an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
