UAE strongly condemns Iranian attack on ADNOC vessels

WAM

The UAE has strongly condemned Iran for targeting two vessels of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) on the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) emphasised that "targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail represents acts of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps".

It added that the attack on Thursday evening constitutes a direct threat to the region's stability, global energy security, and its people.

The ministry also noted the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of UN Security Council resolution 2817 that rejects obstruction of international maritime routes and stressed the need for Iran to halt unprovoked attacks and ensure the complete and unconditional reopening of Strait of Hormuz.

ADNOC confirmed the attack on its vessels, with no injuries reported.

This is the second attack involving ADNOC vessels in less than a week. On Saturday, the Iran targeted an ADNOC vessel as it passed through the Strait.
