UAE team rescues 6 missing in flood-hit Nepal

A specialised team from the UAE has helped rescue six people in Nepal's Trishuli, 16 days after they went missing following the devastating flash flood, national news agency Wam reported on Thursday.

The team, working with Nepalese authorities, used advanced equipment and tech, including drones, aerial imaging and three-dimensional mapping to access targeted locations. 

Hammoud Al Afari, Director of UAE Relief Operations, said the team "continues to deploy its capabilities and expertise to support search and rescue efforts and locate missing people".

These efforts are part of the UAE's humanitarian response, which also includes providing relief assistance to those affected in Nepal, with a total of 186 tonnes of aid currently shipped to the disaster-hit country. 

At least 1,367 people died in Nepal, with more than 5,000 missing since a Himalayan glacier broke off near the Nepal-China border in late August and caused devastation along rivers further downstream.
